2009-2010: North Glengarry - Alexandria Town, Ontario
Alexandria’s lighting program combines both environmental awareness and community participation to achieve excellence in visual presentation. This year the community replaced all 100,000 lights in the local park to LED energy saving bulbs. The town’s residential lighting program is also a big success, while both volunteers and major sponsors contribute to local initiatives.

2008-2009: City of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island
Christmas lights and décor add spirit and sparkle to Charlottetown’s nighttime sky and daytime splendour with thousands of lights presented in thematic displays and seasonal décor along streetscapes, public buildings, corporate offices, and residential properties. An increased use of natural materials exists in both residential and commercial décor schemes. Natural trees on street corners, harmoniously lit with red bows and white lights, provide a magical setting.
2007-2008: Town of Bay Roberts, Newfoundland & Labrador
The criteria award was presented to Bay Roberts based on the research and implementation of the Illumination Committee by staff members at the Amalgamated Academy of Science and Technology and other local schools, who created an ‘intelligent’ lighting system. With the help of numerous volunteers, it is in place at the province’s first animated light park. The system allows residents and visitors to tune to a designated FM frequency on their vehicle radio and listen to a particular Christmas song while the new system of 20,000 additional LED coloured lights blink rhythmically to the music.
The Visual Presentations demonstrated a high level of environmental awareness, safety and energy conservation with the use of timers, electrical engineer’s certification of equipment, use of LED lights and that the natural trees cut for Christmas are later shredded.
2006-2007: City of Kelowna, British Columbia
Congratulations to Kelowna on its 18th Annual Downtown Christmas Light Up - and the many commercial areas that were smartly decorated with high quality lighting displays. The hanging basket displays of natural material with the LED lights near the City Hall were marvellous and added a touch of class. They complemented the visually appealing Festive Banners. The Giant City Hall Wreath using natural materials is First Class – well done City of Kelowna!! The tube lighting in the Cultural District is a good start and the judges encourage you to continue the Program. The judges were impressed by the Tree of Hope. The Winter Lights Best Block competition is an excellent idea especially since it has an energy-efficient component and involves FORTIS BC.
